Before being elected last year, the Crisafulli government assured Queenslanders it was serious about addressing the teacher shortage crisis in our state.
So serious, in fact, it confirmed that it understood nation leading wages were essential to attracting and retaining great teachers in our state.
Sadly, QTU members are still waiting for the promise of fair salaries to eventuate.

Webinar: No New Coal - Whitehaven VS the Climate
6-7pm Online [RSVP link]
Whitehaven Coal wants to build Australia’s biggest new coal mine in Australia. If approved, Winchester South would pump out a staggering 583 million tonnes of climate pollution – more than Australia emits in an entire year. It would keep burning our future until 2055.
But we’re not letting it happen.
Mackay Conservation Group and the Australian Conservation Foundation have taken Whitehaven to court. And they’re not alone – a growing alliance of First Nations People, scientists, climate groups, and everyday people are drawing a line in the sand: no new coal or gas.
Join us on June 26th at 6pm for a powerful online briefing featuring speakers from the Australian Conservation Foundation and Mackay Conservation Group (and maybe some special guests!)
They’ll break down what’s at stake, how this court case could change everything – and what you can do to help stop this climate-wrecking project.

Pickaxe - Film screening at Kurilpa Commons
Event by Growing Forward
5:30pm at Kurilpa Commons, 250 Boundary St West End [Facebook event]
Pickaxe documents a community taking stand to protect an old growth forest from logging at Warner Creek, in the Willamette National Forest of Oregon, by blockading the logging road and repelling the State Police. Over months a community builds around the illegal blockade as it develops into the Cascadia Free State, and similar actions spread across the region. Years after its release, Pickaxe has become a classic document of the potential for grassroots direct action to achieve victory against the forces of both government and big business.

Prevent the Closure of Fleur Street Social eXchange at the Moorooka Social Space
Before we go, here is a little petition to protect a vital Brisbane community space. Sign the petition here, and check out the FSSX Facebook to see events coming up in the next month.
The Fleur Street Social eXchange (FSSX) by-donation cafe at the Moorooka Social Space in Annerley holds a special place in our hearts and in the heart of our community. It is more than just a location; it is a lifeline for many.
It has brought the local community together for nearly five years now. It runs only with volunteers and is funded only by donation - it has truly been established by and for the Moorooka and Brisbane community.
Despite the community services the FSSX has rendered, we have been told to take an indefinite closure from the 30th of June, due to some complaints brought to council. But we cannot let this important place go.
We must keep the Fleur Street Social eXchange alive. Please sign this petition to highlight to the Brisbane City Council and our local Councillor Steve Griffith that
- FSSX is an important, beloved and positive part of the Moorooka community
- to request that the Café remains open, or takes a short winter holiday, instead of an indefinite closure.
If we can keep FSSX alive and open, we can continue serving people locally and we can ensure that it can continue to serve as a sanctuary and resource for those who need it most.
